Curtain Wall System

Curtain walls have a rich history that dates back to the medieval times and the Middle Ages. During the medieval times, due to constant and unpredictable threats of attacks, defence mechanisms were extremely important and these walls were one of the most important defensive structures used to protect several important institutions and buildings such as castles. On the other hand, in the middle Ages, these walls were meant to keep invaders out and to keep out elements typically rain and the wind in order to help stabilize structures. Having evolved from these times, walls – now called ‘curtain walls’ – are largely used in commercial building designs.

Aluminium curtain walls are protective layers affixed to the outside of a building protecting its structure. An aluminium curtain wall can provide a variety of exterior appearances but is characterized by narrowly spaced vertical and horizontal caps.

Curtains walls, thus, serve an extremely important purpose.

The curtain walls have several advantages and upsides to them. They are the following:

  1.  It is non-structural and can be made of lightweight material which helps to reduce construction costs.
  2.   Curtain walls are typically designed with aluminium despite the fact that the first curtain walls were made of steel. The aluminium frame is typically filled with glass, which endows an architecturally pleasing building. It enhances benefits such as day lighting and environmental control. They differ from storefront systems in that they are designed to span multiple floors and take into consideration the design requirements of the curtain wall. Such requirements are thermal expansion and contraction, water diversion, building sway and movement, lighting in the building and thermal efficiency for cost effective heating as well as cooling. You can change the configuration of a room by adding walls. They can quickly become an expensive remodelling project. An aluminium curtain wall is an inexpensive solution when you want to segment a room into different areas and create the partition.
  3.   Additionally, the cu rtain walls can be used for privacy in a shared room, creating new “rooms” in the open area. These open areas can be basements or an unattractive traditional wall.
  4.   One major advantage of aluminium curtain walls is that it allows filtration of natural light into the building. Additionally, it prevents air and moisture from entering into the structure. They can also act as a fire stop, preventing the spread of fire from floor to floor of the building structure. The walls help in the transfer of horizontal wind loads that are incidental upon it to the main building structure through the connections at floors of the building. It is also designed to being air resistant and allowing water infiltration, sway induction by wind and forces acting against the building.
  5.   One of the significant benefits of curtain wall system is facilitates creative freedom. This makes it extremely suitable for the projects, where the glazed fades are angled to stand proud of the building’s front and rear elevations to maximize the use of natural light.
  6.  They are also designed to accommodate structural deflections, control wind-driven rain and air leakage, minimize the effects of solar radiation and provide for maintenance-free long term performance. Most of today’s metal curtain wall systems are constructed of lightweight aluminium.
  7.  The curtain wall system offers various styles, which each allow for the application of various outside appearances. The curtain wall system not only offers unlimited creative freedom, but also incorporates slim sightlines. Its wide product range means that any combination of vertical and inclined planes are possible together with the integration of different types of vents. This maximizes the light penetration into the building while, in turn, minimizes the exterior visible width of the aluminium structure and offers extensive solutions for the different performance requirements of a fade.

These advantages are maximized and made long – lasting with the curtain walls offered by Perfect Glaze.

Why choose our Curtain Wall System?

Find the reason here

Aluminium curtain walls are an inexpensive option for dividing a room into multiple areas.  This type of wall lets natural light flow into the building. In addition, it prevents air and moisture from entering the structure. The curtain wall system offers a variety of styles, which can be adapted for different external appearances. In addition to offering creative freedom, curtain walls also feature slim sightlines.
